The Nation Newspaper Labour rejects govt’s 100% minimum wage increase
At the resumed talks yesterday, organised Labour rejected the N60, 000 offered by the government representatives.A source who attended yesterday’s meeting described the figure as “insulting,” saying the government was not serious about the ongoing negotiations.
But the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mrs. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, said the Federal Government was committed to giving workers a new minimum wage.According to her, the Labour leaders ‘absconded from the meeting’, saying that they asked for time to do consultation but they never returned. She said: “I don’t know why Labour chose to do what they are doing now. It is like they have made up their mind on what they want to do.
The tripartite committee has been locked in talks over a new minimum wage since the committee was inaugurated in January.
