New South Wales Liberal Party President Jason Falinski has blasted Labor for “protecting their friends” at the ABC through the government’s plans to regulate Australian smart TVs.

Communications Minister Michelle Rowland is behind a draconian push to regulate devices in living rooms which will limit the freedom of Australians to see the most relevant content when they switch on their TV.

The “prominence” legislation could see the government manipulate search results for news stories on smart TVs and pre-install SBS and ABC apps on home screens. “The problem here is it’s about Labor protecting their friends at the ABC and punishing their enemies elsewhere,” Mr Falinski told Sky News Australia.

“If we know one thing about Labor, whether they be the Greens or the Teals, they are all about using government to hurt the people who didn’t support them and make sure the people who did get rewarded.”
