La Mesa leaders are objecting to a proposed parole office in the northern part of the city, pitting concerns about the site’s proximity to schools against efforts to better connect people returning from prison with the officers monitoring them.
The plan would be “injurious” to the surrounding area and “would also present a significant impediment to potential housing development,” City Manager Greg Humora wrote in aHe asked that the agency remove the site from consideration, though it appears La Mesa has few ways to object. A corrections department spokesperson said they’ve been searching for a good spot around San Diego County for more than a decade.
