The Association of Hotel Owners in Kwara state has accused the state Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) of multiple taxes, intimidation, harassment, and locking
The association therefore threatened to “approach court of competent jurisdiction for redress if locking up of the hotels of our members without due process continues.”
A statement signed by the President and Secretary of the association Alhaji Dauda Akande and Babatunde Oladunmoye said: “Complete lack of synergy between KWIRS and the MDAs that are responsible for fixing and negotiating taxes and levies has resulted in crazy bills being served our members as demand notices.“Over-regulation and multiplicity of taxes is currently a huge disincentive to investments in Kwara state hospitality and tourism industry.
Speaking during the meeting, KWIRS Executive Director of KWIRS, Mrs. Shade Omoniyi, represented by the Director of Administration and Operations, Olatunji Balogun, and Director of Legal and Compliance, Shehu Mogaji, said that the parley aimed to address ways in which both parties could enjoy more productive relationships through the creation of an atmosphere that would enable ease of doing business and also improve the IGR of the state.
