Churches in Kuala Lumpur are preparing for Christmas festivities with decorations and special services. People are enjoying carols, gift exchanges, and spending time with loved ones during the holiday season.
As Christmas approaches, churches across Kuala Lumpur are preparing for the annual religious holiday. At The Church of Our Lady of Fatima in Brickfields, staff and parishioners are putting the finishing touches on decorations to create a festive atmosphere. The church is adorned in traditional red and green, with a beautifully decorated Christmas tree and a hanging wreath filling the space with holiday cheer.
Parish administrator Reverend Andrew Manickam said the church will hold two Mass sessions on Tuesday (Dec 24), at 6pm and 10.30pm, with an additional Tamil-language one at 8pm. He expects a larger crowd for the 10.30pm Mass as it falls just before Christmas arrives. Meanwhile, churchgoer Carmen Leslie shared her love for the Christmas festivities, saying churches around the city come alive with energy and group activities. She particularly enjoys Christmas carolling, which starts in the first week of December and continues until Christmas Eve. First, they choose a theme, and then they perform in churches or even go carolling at the doorsteps of their members' homes. Titus David, also 25, expressed his joy for the holiday, especially the tradition of exchanging gifts with friends and seeing their excitement when they receive unexpected gifts. He said, 'It’s not about the gift itself, but the thought that counts.' Additionally, many people are taking advantage of the Christmas holiday to return to their hometowns by express bus or the Electric Train Service (ETS) to celebrate with loved ones, as it coincides with the school break
