Following the hullabaloo surrounding the sale of a ham and sandwich food product with a Halal logo recently, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of
Living has taken swift action by raiding the premises in which the product was produced in Sunway Damansara, Petaling Jaya in Selangor.
The premises was raided by KPDN enforcement officers at around 1pm today due to suspicions that the company was misusing the Halal certification logo by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia .Harian Metro quoted KPDN director-general Datuk Azman Adam as saying that the raid was conducted by KPDN Putrajaya in collaboration with JAKIM.
Accordingly, the case is being investigated under Section 4 of the Trade Description Act 2011 and Order 8 of the Trade Description Order 2011.KPDN thus warns all parties to adhere to existing laws and regulations, as well as ensure that all products and services are according to the set Halal standards to avoid any legal action.“Offences such as this are serious and can cause concerns among consumers, especially Muslims.
