Kota Kinabalu is gearing up to welcome the New Year with a spectacular celebration featuring a 1,000 drone performance and a 12-minute fireworks display. The event, which will take place in the city center on December 31st, will also include a concert featuring local and international artists.
A performance of 1,000 drones and fireworks display are set to wow New Year countdown goers in the city centre come midnight on Tuesday (Dec 31). An array of other stunning performances, including a concert featuring local and international artistes, are also expected to attract thousands of visitors to the event venue in front of the Promenade Hotel waterfront area.
Organising chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, in inviting the people to come together to celebrate the New Year, said that Kota Kinabalu is a beautiful place to enjoy, to travel to, for business, and to live in. This is also to introduce Kota Kinabalu as a must-visit place for leisure with family and friends, he said, adding that the event starts at 9.30pm, lasting until 2am, Jan 1, 2025. He said that during the carnival and concert, visitors would experience interesting performances, such as drones and a 12-minute fireworks show, which will be displayed during the countdown. “Let us come and enjoy the programmes that the state government has prepared. This is free for all as we wait for the countdown to 2025,” said Phoong. He said 17 local and international artists, including those from South Korea, China, and Indonesia, as well as local entertainers, will give their best to liven up the mood. “This coming Dec 31, let us celebrate the new year together. Let us enjoy the people’s carnival together with our leaders and tourists and usher in the new year 2025 together,” he said. Among the dignitaries expected to attend this event are Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong, State Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim Yahya, and federal and state cabinet leaders
