Commercial centers and townships in the Kota Kinabalu area have been fined a total of RM3,020 for improper disposal of cigarette butts. The fines were issued as part of the Clean Operation conducted by the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) over the past two months. A total of 193 smokers were caught and fined for littering their cigarette butts.

KUTU sampah di pusat komersial dan bandar di kawasan penarafan Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu secara keseluruhan membayar RM3,020 dalam kompaun di tempat yang dikeluarkan sebagai sebahagian daripada Ops Bersih agensi itu sejak dua bulan lalu.

Kompaun sehingga RM500 boleh dikenakan terhadap sesiapa yang didapati melanggar Undang-Undang Kecil Anti Sampah Sarap DBKK 1984 , menurutnya.Beliau berkata mereka yang berulang kali tidak mengendahkan nasihat agensi itu supaya tidak membuang sampah di kawasan umum, boleh dikenakan tindakan undang-undang.ADVERTISEMENT

“Bilangan kutu sampah paling banyak dicekup di sekitar Centre Point , diikuti Bandaran Berjaya , Kg Air dan Asia City . Dia berkata seorang pemilik kedai di Taman Chempaka dikenakan kompaun kerana melonggokkan barang-barang tidak diingini di kawasan umum di belakang premisnya. “Ia adalah tanggungjawab kolektif setiap orang yang tinggal, bekerja dan kerap mengunjungi kawasan ini.”
