'When you’re out there on the world stage and dealing with people like Vladimir Putin, yeah, you want someone who’s tough.'

Democratic presidential contender Amy Klobuchar, who has faced allegations she mistreated her Senate staff, told CNN in an interview she can “always do better” but added toughness would be a benefit in dealing with foreign leaders.

Amy Klobuchar The Minnesota senator specifically named Russian President Vladimir Putin. Some former staffers have anonymously complained how Klobuchar’s office handled issues including paid family leave. The senator herself earlier this month poked fun at one reported anecdote, in which she purportedly ate salad with a comb.

Klobuchar announced her White House run in February, and is competing for the Democratic nomination with 14 other declared candidates. “I don’t have a political machine. I don’t come from money.
