From January to August this year, MPK Environmental Services Department director Zaireezal Ahmad Zainuddin said the council had to fork out RM1.28mil to clear 35.7 tonnes of bulk waste.“In August alone, the council spent RM169,080. I want people to stop this illegal dumping, ” he told StarMetro. Some go to the extent of driving out of their neighbourhood to dump bulk waste or bags of rubbish elsewhere.
Called Klang Proud , it is a campaign to curb illegal dumping through free collection of bulk waste twice a week. The collection service is combined with cleanliness awareness campaigns in neighbourhoods.“Our council collects the bulk items for free. We do not want to see bulk waste on the roadside. The Klang Proud campaign would focus on five areas offering free collection and strict enforcement namely Lebuh Sultanah Alaudin , Jalan Sungai Chandong , Jalan Kebun Nenas , Jalan Kuari and Kampong India .
“People who want to get rid of unwanted furniture and other large items must use the council’s free collection service, ” he said, adding that they should not transfer the problem somewhere else.
