Jewish leaders have warned their community to stay away from the demonstrations.
A leading rabbi in Dayton, Ohio, is warning the city’s Jewish community to stay away from a planned Ku Klux Klan rally in the city this weekend, warning the demonstration and planned counter-demonstrations will be a “powder keg.”
“I trust our local police to ensure Dayton not become the next Charlottesville, but I still wouldn’t recommend someone I loved place themselves in such a situation.,” the leader of Dayton’s 5,000-strong Jewish community added. According to the Dayton Daily News, Montgomery County approved a permit for the KKK-affiliated group, the Honorable Sacred Knights of Indiana, to gather in downtown Dayton in February. Local groups have expressed their distaste over the planned demonstration but have emphasized the need for the constitutional right for free speech to be upheld.
