Learners from the King's Gambit Online Chess School continue to dominate the local chess scene.
Last Saturday, 15-year-old Michael Jan Stephen Inigo of Bayawan, Negros Oriental scored 8.0 points in nine rounds and defeated older and higher-rated rivals to rule Blitz-For-A-Cause Open Tournament in Dumaguete City.It was a fitting follow-up to his victory in the Bayawan Inter Barangay Chess Championships for 15 years old and up.His performance in back-to-back tournaments underscores his readiness in the National Amateur Chess Championships slated this weekend in Tagaytay City.
His King's Gambit teammate, Woman National Master Tonelle Racasa, finished with 5.0 points and placed six spots behind Mendoza.Siblings Jersey and Jeremy Marticio, meanwhile, swept the top two places in a juniors chess tournament in Laguna over the weekend.King's Gambit Online Chess School founder and head coach Richard Villaseran was impressed by the performances of with his wards.
