Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, says should Nigeria float a national carrier, it must be wholly owned by Nigerians.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, Keyamo said the national carrier must be structured to benefit the Nigerian economy.

“One of those facilitators of the Nigerian Air, one American man has been jumping from one station to the other crying that Nigeria lost foreign direct investment and all that,” he said. “Those planes they were bringing… we were bringing them on wet leases and we were going to pay for them. We were going to pay $112 million over a period of three years. Nigerian state will pay to Addis Ababa.Keyamo also raised concerns about Ethiopian Airlines’ potential dominance in Nigeria’s bilateral air service agreement routes including high-value destinations such as London, New York, Paris, and Johannesburg.
