SAN DIEGO – San Diego City Council has passed the Unsafe Camping Ordinance in a 5-4 vote.
The approval of the legislation has gotten mixed reviews, including opposition from former Mayor Kevin Faulconer, who says the legislation does not go far enough. Many other Republicans are supportive of the bill, including Democrats, because it is a step in the right direction. Faulconer is concerned about the level of enforcement the legislation allows the San Diego Police Department to use. For example, the legislation only bans encampments in certain areas, and shelter beds must be available for camps to be removed.Categories
