I’m always excited to stop the run. It’s something that I take pride in. My coaches trusted me with that responsibility. If you can’t rush the passer, you can’t get off the field as a defense. Well, it was my job to put the opposition in those third-and-obvious passing downs. If they can’t run the ball, that makes them one-dimensional. Offenses want to run the ball first.
I have to make sure I’m aware of my opponent because if I don’t defeat him, I can’t make the play. I have to see how he’s lining up. He might give me a clue pre-snap because I’ve already watched the film and I know what I’m looking for. When I see that guard coming at me full speed to execute a double team, he’s trying to take my hip away, I can hop on a knee and now we’re not on the same level anymore. He might fall and stumble because we’re not on that level. He might not hit his double team because I’m down on one knee .
Keondre Coburn: I had a private workout with the New Orleans Saints. I had a virtual meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I had dinner with the San Francisco 49ers, Saints, and Tennessee Titans. I’ve definitely been busy. I’ve had so many virtual meetings. I’m enjoying the process. I really showcased my pass-rushing abilities this past season. It helped me out because I understood how to rush the passer. Pass rushing isn’t about your initial move. You need to have a move and a counter ready. Offensive linemen are pretty good at predicting what’s coming. Having that counter ready is crucial. You can’t stop your feet because you’ve already lost at that point.
