In a defensive battle, Kennedy prevails, led by three sacks from Joel Arellano.
SAN FERNANDO — The Kennedy High football team knew points would be tough to come by on Friday night, even before an inadvertent whistle cost the Cougars a touchdown on the opening drive of their Valley Mission League win over host San Fernando.
The three, which came on a field goal by senior Steven Garcia, ultimately proved to be the difference in the contest. “They were just kind of pinning those ears back,” Cassidy said. “And they love to get after the quarterback. That’s what our D-line loves to do. We have seniors, juniors, we have two sophomores that play the whole time out there that just absolutely get off the ball and want to compete. And they knew it was time to make a play, and then they went and did it.”
The Cougars were able to break through for a touchdown with just over five minutes in the first half.
