Sta Lusia lahir di Itali, dari keluarga bangsawan yang terhormat. Ketika Lusia masih kecil diam-diam berjanji kepada Yesus bahawa dia tidak berkahwin untuk menjadi milik-Nya sahaja.
Lusia seorang gadis jelita dan ramai pemuda bangsawan jatuh hati padanya. Sikap Lusia yang asyik menolak menyebabkan ibunya marah. Bagi memujuk ibunya yang kebetulan sakit pendarahan, Lusia memujuk ibunya berdoa di Gereja St Agatha bagi memohon kesembuhan.Namun salah seorang pemuda yang menyukai Lusia, tidak suka akan pilihan Lusia. Dia melaporkan Lusia sebagai seorang pengikut Kristus. Meskipun diancam matanya akan dibutakan, Lusia tidak gentar.Sebab itulah, banyak patung yang menggambarkan Sta Lusia dengan matanya yang indah di telapak tangannya. Yesus membalas kesetiaan Lusia yang gagah berani.
