Latest from campaign trail sees leader of the opposition head to Scotland, after his visit to Wales
John Swinney has called on the next UK government to hold an emergency budget after the election, and said he was proud his own administration had taken “deep and hard decisions on tax”. Speaking at a campaign launch event, he said “we’ve asked those on higher gatherings to contribute more to the public funds … and if we hadn’t done that, Scotland would have £1.5bn less to spend on our schools and our hospitals.
” Scotland’s first minister said he was proud of his government’s record on child poverty, saying “we are keeping 100,000 children out of poverty in Scotland as a consequence of the Scottish child payment. That is action to protect children in our society.” He also said the SNP was committed to net zero.
