Tuaran: Private companies and government-linked companies (GLCs) in Sabah have been urged to conduct corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes with the cooperation of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Making the call, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said under Section 34 of the Income Tax Act 1967, any private company or GLC implementing a CSR programme in the form of prevention and anti-corruption education in the country could get a tax deduction.Based on the provision, he said, private companies are eligible to apply for a tax deduction from their gross income that is equivalent to the amount of expenses incurred.

On the Kedai Jojur programme, he said it is a self-checkout shop that sells fast-moving items during school hours. Therefore, he said, Kedai Jujur is one of the initiatives in preparing school students from an early age by applying good values.Hajiji said the Kedai Jujur concept is familiar in Sabah as it is synonymous with unmanned stalls seen along the roadsides in several districts in the State.

Petra contributed a RM2,000 working capital and Kedai Jujur kiosks worth RM3,500 to nine schools and Wisma Pendidikan.
