A letter from SUZIANAH NHAZZLA-JULIAH, Shah Alam
SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has been acquitted and discharged of one charge of sedition by the High Court here on Tuesday over alleged remarks against Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in a political speech last year, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.
On July 18, 2023, the Jeneri assemblyman pleaded not guilty at the Selayang Sessions Court to the two related charges, and the case was transferred to the Shah Alam High Court on Feb 1, 2024 for trial. Sanusi, who is also the Perikatan Nasional election director, was charged with two counts of uttering seditious words involving the Sultan of Selangor and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, at Simpang 4, Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kampung Bendahara, Gombak near here at 11pm, on July 11, 2023.
Both offences are under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948, which can be punished under the same Section 4 which carries a penalty of a fine up to RM5,000 or a maximum prison term of three years or both, if found guilty.On Sept 26, the Sultan of Selangor agreed to accept an apology and forgiveness application from Sanusi.
