After starting the play by dropping back in coverage, the rookie did well to read the quarterback’s intention to tuck and run. Knowing Heinicke’s tendency to dive for the pylon on similar short rushes, Thibodeaux charged up from his spot in coverage, closing the gap between the quarterback and the marker before tackling him out of bounds.
Without that play, the Giants would have had all of the pressure on them to stop a two-point conversion attempt. Considering how well running back Brian Robinson Jr. had run the ball all day, it would not have been an ideal situation for New York. It was fitting that Thibodeaux was the one to make that play after the monster game he had.
After the massive breakout game Thibodeaux just had on Sunday night, it looks like the sky’s the limit for him. He just proved he has all of the ability and motor necessary to take over big games under the brightest of lights, and thanks to his performance, the Giants are in a much better position to make the playoffs after their recent 1-3-1 skid entering the game.
