‘Many Saints of Newark’ actor Kathryn Kates of ‘Seinfeld’ dead at 73
Kates played the Schnitzer’s Bakery counterwoman who sells the last marble rye to Mabel Choate . Jerry Seinfeld offers Mabel much more than she paid for the rye, but she refuses, so he steals the bread from the elderly woman. He’s hellbent on getting the rye to George, who needs it for a delicate situation with Susan’s parents.
Kates also played a Royal Bakery counterwoman in the 1994 “Seinfeld” episode “The Dinner Party,” when she informed an acquaintance of Elaine that she just got the last chocolate babka, to Elaine and Jerry’s dismay .
