Kanye West has lashed out at his fashion partners Gap and Adidas in recent weeks, accusing the companies of stealing his designs and breaking promises that would help expand his ventures
The Yeezy Gap Perfect hoodie.In late 2021 Yeezy Gap released the Perfect hoodie, which Gap said delivered the most sales by an item in a single day on its website. Over 70% of the customers who made a purchase that day were shopping for the first time with the retailer, according to Gap.
“You have to really give me the position to be Ye and do what I’m thinking or I’m going to have to do what I’m thinking somewhere else,” Mr. West said in a video he posted to Instagram on Wednesday. In the video, Mr. West is shown talking with Gap officials. The most recent collection, including designs that Mr. West made in collaboration with the luxury fashion brand Balenciaga, launched in late July. Items were sold initially at the Gap Times Square location and a separate e-commerce site, before rolling out to additional stores across the country. Some of the Yeezy Gap items are being sold at Gap stores inside large construction bags on the floor, a request made by Mr. West.
The collection has been met with mixed reviews on social media, said Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail. Mr. Saunders said he has also spoken to Gap retail workers, who have told him the collection wasn’t selling well, and talked to shoppers in stores who have expressed disappointment with the drop. Gap hasn’t disclosed sales information about the latest collection.
“It’s just a few products thrown out there,” said Mr. Saunders. Initially touted as Gap’s big project, he said the collection “does not look like it’s an integral part of the Gap.”, as well as in stores across the U.S. Products sold as part of special designer collaborations often sell out quickly at retailers.Sponsored Offers
