Lawmakers in Kano State have rejected President Bola Tinubu's proposed Tax Reform Bills, citing concerns over economic imbalance and regional disparities.
The controversial Tax Reform Bills proposed by President Bola Tinubu have been rejected by the Kano State House of Assembly. Lawmakers discussed and voted against the bills in a plenary session led by Speaker Isma’il Falgore. Lawan Husseini, the Majority Leader, argued that the bills would disproportionately benefit southern regions like Lagos, harming the northern economy and increasing hardship.
He highlighted that the proposed reforms would lead to a significant share of VAT going to Lagos, leaving northern states with a minimal share. Lawmaker Salisu Mohammed urged the National Assembly to focus on national issues such as insecurity and unemployment
