Sa ulat ng Reuters, sinabing nakaligtas si Congressman Lee Zeldin sa naturang pag-atake nitong Huwebes at naaresto ang suspek na kinilalang si David Jakubonis, 43-anyos.
Sinabi ni Zeldin na nagawa niyang mahawakan ang kamay ni Jakubonis nang umatake ito. Mabilis ding kumilos ang mga kasamahan niya. "His words as he tried to stab me a few hours ago were 'you’re done'," sabi ng Republican politician sa kaniyang post sa Twitter.Sa video footage na ipinost sa social media ng ilang nakasaksi, makikita ang suspek na nakasuot ng itim na baseball cap at mabilis na lumapit kay Zeldin mula sa gilid ng stage.
"Political scores should be settled at the ballot box, not on stage at campaign events trying to violently attack candidates you disagree with. This is not ok," sabi ni Zeldin.
