Kamala Harris slams Donald Trump over $8.6bn budget request for border wall 'vanity project'
Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris slammed President Donald Trump on Sunday over his reported plans to request $8.6 billion in funding for the construction of his long-promised border wall in the budget proposal the White House is set to release on Monday.
Let’s get this straight: billions of dollars for a border wall is a waste of money. American taxpayers shouldn’t foot the bill for the President’s vanity project. We simply don’t need it. https://t.co/u6dHy5FrbB "President Trump hurt millions of Americans and caused widespread chaos when he recklessly shut down the government to try to get his expensive and ineffective wall, which he promised would be paid for by Mexico," the Democratic leaders said in a joint statement. "Congress refused to fund his wall and he was forced to admit defeat and reopen the government. The same thing will repeat itself if he tries this again.
This week, the Senate is set to vote on a resolution opposing the emergency declaration, with a number of Republican senators announcing in recent weeks that they planned to vote in favor of the measure. If it does pass the Senate , Trump has vowed to veto the resolution, which would send it back to Congress, which doesn't seem to have the votes required to override the president's veto.
