Bonifacio Day is the only national holiday commemorating the birthday instead of the death of a historical figure.
The first president commuted the death sentence to banishment but was influenced by surrounding generals to withdraw the commutation.Prior to that, Bonifacio persuaded some men to join forces with him and stop Aguinaldo with the fear that the latter had plans to hand over the revolutionary government to the Spaniards.
Rizal, a novelist and considered the national hero, died by musketry on charges of rebellion, sedition and conspiracy.
