Houston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander jogs out to the mound in Game 1 of the World Series at Minute Maid Park on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, in Houston.PHILADELPHIA — On the eve of his second start in this year’s World Series, Justin Verlander said it was too early to think that Thursday’s Game 5 could be his last time pitching in an Astros uniform.
Prior to Game 4 on Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park, Houston’s ace said it was premature to discuss his plans for next season. "So I'm trying not to think about it. I'm trying to be present. I mean, we talked a lot about how this year I've just tried to be more in the moment and be present and enjoy the ride and yeah, that will happen whenever it happens. We'll see.”
Following his American League Division Series outing against the Yankees, which ranked as the worst playoff start of his career, Verlander discussed struggling with his lower-half mechanics as a lingering effect of his late-season calf injury.
