The CW is developing a new Arrowverse show called Justice U, starring David Ramsey as John Diggle.
Arrow star David Ramsey is set to lead the new Arrowverse show, Justice U, being developed for The CW. The Arrowverse began when Arrow premiered in 2012. The universe unites the storylines from several television series that follow characters based on DC Comics, including its most recent addition, Superman & Lois. The Arrowverse has become known for its crossover events, which link the different series together and sometimes connect to other DC-based properties outside of the Arrowverse.
In the Arrowverse, Ramsey appears as John Diggle, an original character created for Arrow. Diggle starts off as Oliver Queen's bodyguard, but over time, he becomes Oliver's friend as well as a vital member of Team Arrow. At one point later in the series, he takes up the mantle of the Green Arrow while Oliver is absent. Ramsey's character Diggle appeared in Arrow season 1 through season 8 and became a recurring character in several of the other Arrowverse series.
Not only will Ramsey star in Justice U, but if the series is picked up, he will direct the pilot. Like the other Arrowverse series before it, Justice U is being produced by Berlanti Productions. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, and Geoff Johns will serve as executive producers alongside Michael Narducci, who worked on The Vampire Diaries. Zoanne Clack, who is known for Grey's Anatomy, also joins the series as an executive producer.
John Diggle is a natural choice for The CW to build a new series around after the Arrowverse's first series, Arrow, finally ended. The character has fought side-by-side with some of the most veteran heroes in the universe, and he already has a habit of hopping from series to series. It also makes sense in the Arrowverse's progression for Diggle now to act as a mentor to new heroes.
