Tamara McLoyd, seated between her attorneys Kevin Cafferkey, to her left, and Jaye Schlachet, is shown on a Zoom video stream during the first day of testimony in her trial on charges killing off-duty Cleveland police officer Shane Bartek.CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A jury on Tuesday watched surveillance camera video that showed a masked robber shoot off-duty Cleveland police officer Shane Bartek during a botched carjacking in the parking lot of his apartment building on New Year’s Eve.

The video showed Bartek carrying two black cloth face coverings in his right hand as he walked to his car in the parking lot about 6:30 p.m. to go to a Cleveland Cavaliers game. The robber followed behind him at first, then ran up behind him. Bartek jumped, and the person lunged toward him.The robber walked up to Bartek, and Bartek started to grab items from his pockets. After a brief pause, the robber reached out and grabbed at Bartek’s hands.

When the video showed the killer run away without picking up any bullet casings, Schlachet pointed out that the video stopped as soon as the killer fled the scene and did not show whether someone else came and picked anything up.Hernandez pulled his Toyota Corolla into a parking spot about 4:15 p.m. and started to unload luggage, the video showed. He was moving into an apartment that day.

Hernandez testified through an interpreter that the person showed him the handle of a gun tucked into the waistband and said, “give me your keys.”“It was either the car or me,” he said.McLoyd’s other defense attorney, Kevin Cafferkey, questioned Hernandez about discrepancies between his testimony and statements he initially gave police.
