Jury Duty season 2 gets updated by an executive producer after the comedy makes a big Emmys splash, getting nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Jury Duty season 2 gets an update from executive producer David Bernad after the show earned a surprise Emmys feat. An inventive reality hoax series, which premiered on Amazon Freevee in April, Jury Duty focuses on the inner workings of a jury trial in the United States through the eyes of juror Ronald Gladden. The man from San Diego is unaware that his jury duty summons is unofficial and that everyone in the courtroom other than him is an actor.
With the eight-episode series getting nominated for the upcoming Primetime Emmy in Outstanding Comedy Series and a Best Supporting Actor nod for Marsden, Bernad spoke to Deadline about the latest on Jury Duty season 2. The executive producer struck a cautious tone, acknowledging the ongoing writers' strike, but said that more episodes of the inventive comedy could happen. Read his quote below:
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT “Yeah, who knows? When the WGA strike is over, it’s something we can sit down and think about as it’s something we may try and do. But right now, we’re celebrating Jury Duty and everyone who played a role in its success like the entire team at Freevee who deserve a lot of credit for taking a shot on this."
Why Jury Duty Season 2 Seems Likely Although exact viewership numbers haven't been shared, deep reporting on the state of Amazon's programming has cited Jury Duty as one of the studio's biggest hits and a major player for Freeve. The comparison is even stronger, considering how much Amazon has spent on splashy dramas such as Citadel. The star-studded and quite costly spy drama has had less of an impact both in terms of awards and viewership.
The juxtaposition is significant because Jury Duty costed significantly less to make. Although much has changed in terms of the TV landscape, it generally remains true that a combination of viewership, awards buzz, and relatively low cost makes the path to renewal easier. That's doubly true if Jury Dury builds on its Emmy splash with more nominations at other ceremonies. In the past, producers have said that Jury Duty's premise is infinitely repeatable.
