Dem. Rep. GerryConnolly says Paul Manafort is “fishing for a pardon” in court papers asking for a reduced sentence: “I think it’s code from Manafort ... to the President that ‘I am with you. There’s no collusion and I’ll never testify that there is.’”

This comes after special counsel Robert Mueller's office gave Jackson more information following an additional interview that prosecutors did last month with Rick Gates about a Kilimnik and Manafort meeting. Prosecutors said Gates provided some information that helps Manafort. In a separate case, Manafort said he is"truly remorseful for his conduct" in his last major court filing before a federal judge in Virginia sentences him for a jury's conviction of financial fraud.

Ellis disagreed, endorsing the case, but only after he criticized the anti-Trump political climate around the special counsel's efforts in a speech from the bench."The Special Counsel's attempt to vilify Mr. Manafort as a lifelong and irredeemable felon is beyond the pale and grossly overstates the facts before this Court," Manafort's legal team says.
