JSO investigates officer-involved shooting on Jacksonville’s Westside
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an officer-involved shooting left a suspect dead on the city’s Westside.
At 6:44 p.m. Tuesday, police said they got a call about a robbery happening outside a business on Normandy Boulevard off Lane Avenue South. When officers arrived, they saw the robbery victim pointing at the suspect who took off towards the nearby Westwood Apartments.Neighbors told Action News Jax they weren’t allowed inside the apartment complex as officers searched for the suspect.
JSO searched the complex for about 45 minutes. Police said a witness called and believed the suspect was inside one of the apartment units.He did eventually, and had his arms raised according to police, but as he approached officers, he decided to run off again.That’s when officers said the suspect fell onto the hood of the patrol car and a struggled ensued.The suspect took off thru Westwood Apartments. He was trying to jump a fence and an officer cut him off with a patrol car .
