The Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued over 5,000 notices for various offences against commercial vehicles during a five-day operation.

SEREMBAN: A total of 5,306 notices for various offences were issued against commercial vehicles during the five-day 'Technical Crackdown' Operation of the Road Transport Department ( JPJ ). Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport , Datuk Jana Santhiran Muniayan said that the highest number of offences detected so far was the violation of using vehicles that do not comply with JPJ regulations and require further inspection.

'This involves the issuance of 2,473 offence notices for goods vehicles and 16 offences for public service vehicles, with a total of 2,489 notices issued. 'In this operation, a total of 17,729 commercial vehicles were inspected, involving 15,770 goods vehicles and 1,959 public service vehicles. 'Meanwhile, the number of vehicles taken action against was 1,787, with 1,716 involving goods vehicles, and the number of impounded vehicles was 16,' he said to reporters after the operation at Hentian Rehat dan Rawat Seremban (southbound) in Seremban yesterday. Jana Santhiran said that following several accidents and deaths caused by road accidents involving commercial vehicles, the MOT and JPJ are taking the trend of accidents seriously and taking stricter enforcement action against vehicles that fail to comply with the regulations under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715) and the Regulations throughout the country. He said that through this 'Technical Crackdown' Operation, JPJ has mobilized more than 1,500 personnel focusing on enforcement against commercial vehicle offences such as overloading and traffic offences
