KUALA LUMPUR: Some 2,000 Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers, including undercover officers, will be deployed at accident hotspots and other areas during an integrated operation held in conjunction with Chinese New Year celebrations.
JPJ deputy director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli said officers would conduct focused patrols at hotspots to conduct checks for any traffic infringements.
"We prefer to utilise patrols and go undercover instead of conducting roadblocks as we don't want to cause unnecessary traffic congestion," he told reporters after attending the integrated operation held at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan on Friday . "Technical checks will be performed on express buses while the National Anti-Drug Agency will conduct urine tests on drivers.Such checks were necessary to ensure that all buses are in good condition, Aedy Fadly said.
"Those who commit such offences will not only receive summonses but demerits under the Kejara system as well," he said.
