The verdict comes after a mountain of CCTV evidence, eyewitness testimony, DNA evidence and after the jury heard about Puska’s confession to gardai while he was in hospital - two days after the murder of Ms Murphy. The trial had heard how Puska told Detective Garda Brian Jennings “I did it. He told the trial that Puska said: “Tell him that I did it, that I killed her. But please tell him also that I didn’t do that intentionally. The jury also heard directly from Puska when he took to the witness stand last week and gave an extraordinary 11th hour account of what he claimed really happened on the day Ms Murphy was killed.
