KOTA KINABALU: Dr Wong Siew Te and his team at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) has helped release 12 sun bears back into the wild over the past eight years.
But despite their past experiences, nothing could ever prepare the renowned local sun bear conservationist and his passionate colleagues each time when it was finally time to let go of their furry friends.
“Sika has been a resident with us at the BSBCC and we raised her in the last six years so, everybody is feeling attached. We know it’s hard but it is the right thing to do ... she is ready to go. “I hope Sika can make it in the forest, live a long, long time, and propagate with other bears in the wild. And we hope she never encounters any humans again,” he said.
By midnight, the team loaded her up onto the car and started their long journey to the Tabin Wildlife Reserve, arriving at 5.30am.
