Jonathan Majors and the Gotham Film & Media Institute are cutting ties—the latest development in the fallout from the actor’s March 25 arrest.
executive director of the Gotham Film & Media Institute, shared a note with the board today that stated that Majors has decided to temporarily step away from the board of the Gotham Film & Media Institute and his work on behalf of the Sidney Poitier Initiative.
At the 2022 Gotham Awards, Majors took the stage to present an award to the Poitier family in honor of the late actor, who died earlier that year. “His work and activism changed the way we see movies and the way we see ourselves,” he said onstage. Majors announced the Gotham Sidney Poitier Initiative at the event, which was aimed at supporting a new generation of filmmakers through mentorship and funding.
Majors was arrested in New York on March 25 on charges of strangulation, assault, and harassment, in an alleged domestic dispute with a woman that ishas stated that “Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is probably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows.” She also released a set of text messages between Majors and the woman to further argue her client’s innocence. A hearing is set for May 8.
The alleged incident occured at a time when Majors was reaching new heights in his Hollywood career. Theand had recently presented at the Oscars.
