Johor welcomes move to reopen border with S'pore to allow workers to commute

JOHOR BARU: The Johor state government welcomes the Federal Government's decision to reopen its border with Singapore to allow Malaysians working in the island republic to commute daily for work.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said that an estimated 200,000 to 250,000 Malaysians travel to Singapore via the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex and the Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ on a daily basis for work.

"I believe that the federal government's decision to allow Malaysians working in Singapore to commute daily would protect the economic interests of both countries while ensuring that Malaysians working in the island republic would continue to earn a living," he said in a statement here Tuesday ."In 2015, Johor received RM716.75mil in investments from Singapore and another RM509.50mil in 2016.
