ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor government will appoint 42 more village chiefs before May to help smooth administration in the state, says exco member Datuk Zahari Sarip.
The state agriculture, agro-based industry and rural development committee chairman added that currently, there are 625 serving village chiefs out of 667 posts in total.
"The late selection was due to some local issues where some candidates did not receive support from the locals, and some candidates had passed away," he told reporters after attending the Johor Mentri Besar's meet-and-greet session with village chiefs at the Iskandar Puteri City Council main hall here on Sunday .
“From January, village chiefs will receive RM1,200 monthly allowance, up from the previous RM900. But we are in discussions with the Federal Government to raise it to RM1,500," he added. In his speech at the event, Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said: “Some village chiefs have held their posts for more than three decades, and they any issues faced by the people.
