JOHOR BARU: Another 1,567 residents in Batu Pahat have been despatched to temporary flood relief centres (PPS), bringing the total evacuees to 41,543 at noon Wednesday (March 8).
The Johor disaster management committee said Muar also saw an increase in flood evacuees to 4,123 at noon from 4,080 recorded at 8am.
"The other districts such as the previously worst-hit Segamat, Kota Tinggi and Pontian continue to see improvements as more families return home following the receding of floodwaters. "In total, 11,818 families are still displaced and seeking relief at 198 PPS statewide," the statement said, adding that parts of Batu Pahat and Kulai have started raining again.
Batu Pahat ranked highest in terms of registered flood evacuees at 29,341 followed by Muar , Tangkak , Segamat , Mersing , Kluang , Kota Tinggi and Pontian . The committee also reported slight drops in the water levels in Segamat, Muar and Batu Pahat, but they were still classified as red or dangerous level.
