John Wick is one of the most popular action franchises of the past few years, meaning that audiences would most likely be down for another exciting film.
2023's John Wick: Chapter 4 is the most recent entry in the beloved John Wick franchise, with the film bringing back the character for another round of violent high-octane action. Surprisingly, though, the film ended with the death of John Wick, seemingly bringing the series to a close. Despite this, there have been rumblings of a fifth John Wick film, to the confusion of many audience members.
Keanu Reeves Being Up For John Wick 5 Removes The Sequel's Biggest Obstacle According to a recent update by John Wick director Chad Stahelski, Keanu Reeves is open to coming back for John Wick 5. There are still a lot of questions surrounding how the film will work, but since Keanu Reeves is down to return, the film seems much more possible now. Not having Keanu Reeves would have been the biggest problem for John Wick 5, so it's good to see that the franchise has dodged this bullet.
Doing a John Wick 5 without Keanu Reeves would be almost impossible, as his starpower is one of the things that carry the franchise. While there are upcoming John Wick spin-offs that don't focus on the titular assassin, such as The Continental and Ballerina, John Wick 5 without John Wick just wouldn't work. While the franchise does have other characters to pull from, none of them are as exciting and beloved as Keanu Reeves' John Wick.
This story problem is something that Stahelski and Reeves have both struggled with, with Stahelski admitting that they haven't come up with an idea yet. However, the director is eager to make the film if the idea comes, with Stahelski saying "if I was driving in the car or if I was walking the dog and an idea hit me, within 30 seconds I’d be on the phone to Keanu and we’d be riffing.
