The Angels beat the Seattle Mariners 5-1 in their Cactus League opener on Saturday afternoon in Peoria, Ariz.Left-hander Tucker Davidson pitched two perfect innings, striking out three. Davidson said he’s been using a new sweeper, which is a slow version of a slider that he’s throwing instead of a curve. He’s also focused on throwing strikes, which was a major issue last year. “The biggest thing for me honestly is to get ahead and put guys away whenever you can,” Davidson said.
“All of them are impressive,” Angels manager Phil Nevin said. “They’ve all had really nice years in the big leagues before and had some setbacks last couple years, but all seem very healthy and look good today.” … Left-hander Kolton Ingram pitched a perfect inning, with two strikeouts. Ingram was just added to the 40-man roster this winter.Jo Adell blasted a two-run homer against Seattle lefty Marco Gonzales in his first at-bat of the spring.
