Jordan's letter calls the committee's desire to talk to him 'unprecedented' and said it 'serves no legitimate legislative purpose and would set a dangerous precedent for future Congresses.'
President Donald Trump invites U.S. representative Jim Jordan on stage to speak at a 2018 campaign rally in Ohio. WASHINGTON, D. C. - Three days after the anniversary of a riot on Capitol Hill by supporters of former President Donald Trump who wanted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, Trump-ally Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican, announced he won’t cooperate with a select committee probing the incident.
Jordan insisted he has “no relevant information that would assist the Select Committee in advancing any legitimate legislative purpose,” and questioned why it is not interviewing Democrats “with responsibility for or oversight of the security posture at the Capitol complex on January 6. Jordan is the second current GOP House of Representatives member to decline a voluntary interview with the committee.last month called the committee “illegitimate and not duly constituted under the rules of the House of Representatives.”
“Without any Republican Members selected by the Republican Leader, the Select Committee has no effective measure of balance or objectivity,” Jordan’s letter said.
