September 23, 2019 6:47 PMKUALA LUMPUR: Former 1MDB chief executive officer Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi told the High Court that fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho had a close relationship with Najib Razak and was seen moving in and out of his official residence.
He said Low was familiar with the place. “He took me straight to the gates and passed the guards. The staff at Seri Satria also seemed to be familiar with him. Shahrol also said he saw Low as a facilitator between Najib and the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, in helping the bid of 1MDB’s precursor, Terengganu Investment Authority, to secure federal government guarantees to raise RM6 billion in funds.
To that, Najib’s lawyer, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, interjected and objected to Shahrol’s statement on grounds it was hearsay evidence.
