The boardwalk was evacuated, but reopened about 10:30 a.m. after investigators found that the threats were not legitimate.
The Seaside Heights boardwalk was evacuated Monday morning after a series of hoax bomb threats claiming explosives had been planted in businesses, according to Ocean County authorities.
Seaside Heights police received four calls shortly before 9 a.m. in what was later deemed to be a swatting incident. The calls also falsely claimed armed people were on the boardwalk, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.“Based on what we know now, these threats are swatting incidents,” Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said. “We will continue to investigate this incident with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners.”Our journalism needs your support.
