'That will be one that they'll show week after week when they go to teams to say what you can't do,' Saturday said.
“It was right in front of me, and it definitely deserved an ejection,” Saturday said. “You can’t launch into a guy’s head, especially a guy who’s turned the other way and unprotected.”Unlike college football, the NFL does not have a targeting rule.
An ejection for a hit to the head is much more rare in the NFL. A hit has to be egregious to get a player kicked out of the game, and the league offices in New York have the ability to call in to the referees on the field and issue an ejection.Chargers coach Brandon Staley blames Colts for Derwin James' illegal hit on Ashton Dulin
“If you look at all the rule changes over the last 10 years, or however long it’s been now, since we’ve been trying to take that stuff out of the game, that will be one that they’ll show week after week when they go to teams to say what you can’t do,” Saturday said. “I disagree . I think the ejection was warranted.”
The NFL will not suspend James for the hit, the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Monday morning, but the Chargers safety could be facing a hefty fine later this week.
