Stellantis brings back the inline-6 for Jeep, Dodge, and Ram models. Stellantis Hurricane Engine CarGuidePH

Stellantis has announced that its inline-6 is returning this year to power Dodge and Jeep vehicles from the 2023 model year onwards. Dubbed, “Hurricane,” the 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-6 fits both front- and rear-wheel drive vehicles and thus can be fitted to a variety of vehicles from Jeep, Dodge, and Ram.

The carmaker has yet to officially confirm which vehicle will get the new engine first, but photos of the engine did appear on the online configurator for the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. It was then removed a day later. The Hurricane 3.0-liter inline-6 reduces emissions as much as 15 percent while also boosting fuel economy as much as 15 percent versus similar or larger engines in Stellantis’ arsenal.

Two outputs will be available. The Standard Output version, optimized for fuel economy will produce more than 400 horsepower and 610 Nm of torque, while the High Output version will make more than 500 horsepower and 644 Nm of torque. Those ratings actual surpass those of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 although Stellantis has confirmed that the Hurricane will not be a direct replacement for the long-standing V8.

The inline-6 features several key technologies such as the turbo powering three cylinders each for improved response, a direct-injection fuel system, a spray-in cylinder liner, and fuel-saving idle start/stop.-
