Jazz trumpeter jaimie branch recorded much of the album at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, Nebraska. Outside of class, branch dove into a handful of ska-punk bands, experiences that would seep into her later work. Bassist Greg Geary — who played in one of those groups, Danny and the Ketch-Ups — says branch was “the glue” that fastened a crew so motley it could have been lifted from “The Breakfast Club.”

Because Chicago sounds awesome, sounds great, sounds different,” branchBranch’s family confirmed her cause of death, initially kept private, as an accidental overdose. Branch had spoken about her struggles with opioid use in the past, even if “she was not as open about it as she was literally everything else in her life,” says McNiece.
“That’s jaimie hooking us up,” McNiece says. “You feel her presence, making the decisions and getting what she wants.”
