In May, the town installed a large black curtain and a protective fence on the opposite side of the road to discourage these behaviours. The measure successfully deterred misbehaving tourists and the fence was subsequently taken down in August. According to Asahi TV News, the town plans to install two fences, each about 6m wide and 80cm high, along the sidewalk on the side of the convenience store.This decision comes after a resurgence of disrespectful behaviours from tourists, who were reported to have hurled verbal abuses such as "You're an idiot" and "Die" at stationed staff dispatched by authorities to manage the crowd.
